Winslow Homer, Skirmish in the Wilderness, 1864, Oil on canvas mounted on Masonite, Harriet Russell Stanley Fund

Throughout history, war has served as the subject of many visual and literary works. This guided tour will focus on the ways that visual artists on view in our galleries, including Winslow Homer and Harry Everett Townsend, and writers, such as Stephen Crane, Wilfred Owen and Ernest Hemingway, have created enduring impressions of the conditions of war and its aftermath.
