NEW BRITAIN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

First Friday

Cynthia Fabian & Co and Caribbean Vibe Steel Drum Band

Friday, May 06, 2016

Held monthly, First Friday offers you the use of our galleries as your backdrop as you enjoy local music, artisans, food, and more.

MUSIC:

Cynthia Fabian & Co. consists of Cynthia Fabian, a twenty-two-year veteran of the Connecticut blues scene, and the Boogie Boys, a duo specializing in piano, drums, and vocals. Cynthia Fabian and The Boogie Boys have been performing together throughout Connecticut for the last year at major blues nightclubs, outdoor festivals, private parties, and house parties. The sound they bring to a venue is soulful and engaging with an emphasis on swing and blues.

With over 30 years of experience, Caribbean Vibe Steel Drum Band provides fun and festive steel drum music. Feel the sounds of the Caribbean during their high energy performance, which will cover a wide variety of styles including Calypso, Reggae, Soca (a.k.a. the soul of calypso), Latin, and North American music.

TASTINGS:

  • Olde Burnside Brewing Company
  • J.F. Food Concepts—bruschetta

SPECIALTY DRINK:

Fuzzy-less Navel: orange juice, peach nectar, and orange slices

ACTIVITIES:

  • Guided art discussion in the galleries (meet in lobby)

MAKER’S MARKET:

CSM Art Glass, by Cheryl Moody, features dichroic glass jewelry pieces made carefully and individually. Dichroic glass is made with a dual-color firing technique–the final product is iridescent and displays two different colors when viewed from different angles. Based in Cheshire, Moody produces earrings, necklaces, rings, and more using dichroic glass (which she fires herself).

Deborah Leng’s hand-woven chenille scarves and jewelry designs relate to spiritual awareness and personal growth.

Linda Garcia, of Bohemian Textile Art, creates one-of-a-kind scarves, bottle cozies, and more using silk, cotton, Merino wool, water, goat’s soap, and natural fibers. Based in Plainville, Garcia’s designs are creative and delightfully comfortable.
