Students get creative in the Museum's American Savings Foundation Art Education Center

In Ghanaian culture of the mid-late 1980s through the 90s, international cinema, particularily from America, was extremely popular. Screenings were held both by day and night, either in the confines of a family home or small communal meeting center. To advertise these films, For marketing purposes, artists were commisioned to created movie posters, often using only their imagination, as as reference material. This was because there was little-to-no access to these films prior to being brought to Ghana.

Using these posters as inspiration, which are featured in the Museum's special exhibition Ghana Paints Hollywood, homeschoolers will practice the translation of oral information to visual by igniting their own imaginations to illustrate stories told by classmates.
