Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with cover art by Salvador Dalí

Kevin Repp, Curator of Modern European Books & Manuscripts at the Beinecke Rare Book Library Salvador

Dalí’s illustrated interpretation of the classic Lewis Carroll children’s story, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (selections of which can be seen in our current exhibition, Cycle of Life in Print: Salvador Dalí) is one of many artistic renditions. Kevin Repp will discuss the various illustrated versions of the story created from the 1920s to the present. Repp will also offer comparisons with Dalí’s contemporaries, such as Max Ernst (1891–1976), versions of the tale, and conclude with some reflections about surrealism’s prominence in popular imagery and trends of the psychedelic counter culture of the 1960s–70s.
