Shown iIn conjunction with the Museum's exhibition NEW/NOW: Francisca Benítez, this award-winning film follows the journey of four extraordinary deaf entertainers over the course of a year. Learn about the successes of an all-deaf rock band, a deaf comic who's performed all over the world, an acting professor at Julliard School of Music, and a hard -of -hearing singer, as their stories intertwine and culminate in some of the most important events in their lives.
All four entertainers have gone above and beyond in their various disciplines. Drummer Bob Hiltermann helped his all-deaf rock band produce their largest concert in their 30-year history, while brilliant actor Robert DeMayo serves as one of the leading experts on translating English into American Sign Language. CJ Jones is a highly celebrated deaf comic in the Deaf d community, who produced the first International Sign Language Theatre Festival in Los Angeles, and singer-songwriter TL Foresberg, who overcame many struggles to land a record deal for her first album, titled Not Deaf Enough.
See What I'm Saying is the first American film to be open-captioned for the country's 30 million deaf and hard of hearing viewers, and opens the door into Ddeaf culture for those who are "signing impaired." The film has screened in over 100 cities around the world and won numerous awards and accolades.
