Sunday, August 7, 2016
Tom Lovell, Rescue, c. 1950, Oil on canvas, 24 x 35 in., Gift of the artist.
Michael Takiff will lead a lively discussion about his non-fictional novel, which features a compelling story of human connections that weave together themes of combat, service, country, and family. Brave Men, Gentle Heroes presents side-by-side accounts by two generations of warriors which vividly depict not only the familiar differences in their experiences, but also the profound commonalities. After the lecture, join Associate Curator of Education Heather Whitehouse, who will continue to explore these these with tour of Eric Aho’s Continental Series (War Paintings) and selected works from our current exhibition Masterpieces of The Sanford B.D Low Illustration Collection. Following the gallery tours, Michael Takiff will sign copies of his novel Brave Men, Gentle Heroes, available for purchase in the Museum Shop.
