NEW BRITAIN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

Family Day

Veteran's Day

Friday, November 10, 2017

Harry Everett Townsend, Untitled (WWI Trench Sketch), ca. 1918, Graphite on paper, Gift of Mrs. Elaine Hanley

With the Museum's special exhibition Harry Everett Townsend: Illustrations of a World War I Artist on view, this Family Day offers visitors a great opportunity to honor Veteran's Day with art and objects directly from our nation's history. Start your visit with an all-ages Yoga session with yoga instructor Kelly Murphy. After yoga, Karen Hudkins of the New Britain Industrial Museum will be available during the day to talk and answer questions about a display of canteens, kitchen tools, and other items from the World War I era used to support the troops abroad.

To see just what life was like for World War I soldiers on the front lines at the advent of industrial combat, join a special walk-in tour of the exhibition Harry Everett Townsend: Illustrations of a World War I Artist. The Museum will also host ongoing activities such as paper poppy art and letter-writing to celebrate our nation's veterans and learn more about ways in which families supported soldiers during World War I and how we continue to support veterans today. Activities are appropriate for all ages, making this Family Day an educational, yet fun-filled, way to spend your little ones' day off.
