EDUCATION VISITOR SERVICES
DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP

Orientation for each semester is mandatory for every intern. Summer 2009 orientation is Tuesday June 2, 10:30 - noon. Fall 2009 orientation is Tuesday September 8, 10:30 - noon. Spring 2010 orientation is Tuesday January 26, 10:30 - noon.

Student will assist in all aspects of the Education and Visitor Services departments of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Tasks will include, but may not be limited to working with the following staff members.

Associate Curator of Education

  • Develop tour confirmation packets for school and adult tours (Content, assemblage and mailing)
  • Research for upcoming exhibitions for docents and teacher resources
  • Creating and assembling tour interactive also known as docent tour bags
  • Assist with New Docent training material preparation

Manager of Visitor and Volunteer Services

  • Welcome public visitors and orient them to the museum.
  • Welcome tour groups, studio programs and general admission visitors
  • Navigate Front desk tools
    VISTA, our front desk and back office data base and event scheduling system
    Other computer applications (excel, PowerPoint, word, publisher ect.)

Family Program Coordinator

  • Assist with Studio programs and Maintain supplies
  • Assist teaching artists in classes (pre-K-adult)
  • Assist with ArtLab (interactive area for pre-K- 5th graders)
    Maintain and update supplies, books and interactive stations, based upon current exhibitions.
    Research and create interactive stations based upon upcoming exhibitions
    Monitor and assist visitors with special interactive stations Implement evaluations

Adult Program Coordinator

  • Assist with Adult programs
  • Drafting speaker/musician contracts
  • Confirming lecturers/musicians
  • Assisting with program set-up and take-down and hospitality

Reading and Writing Requirements:

Students will be required to keep a daily journal that outlines activities, personal observations and key points. Relevant texts and materials will be provided for background readings and research papers.

Meetings and evaluations:

Students will formally meet with on-site supervisor weekly to discuss student’s progress, concerns and other topics. A final evaluation will be submitted to faculty sponsor.
