Fall/Spring/Summer Development Internships Orientation for each semester is mandatory for every intern. Summer 2009 orientation is Tuesday June 2, 10:30 - noon. Fall 2009 orientation is Tuesday September 8, 10:30 - noon. Spring 2010 orientation is Tuesday January 26, 10:30 - noon. Interns in the Development department at the New Britain Museum of American Art have the opportunity to work closely with the Development staff and gain professional experience and great insight into the Museum and Non-profit worlds. Interns help support fundraising efforts by assisting with special events including a major fundraising Gala. Tasks related to special events include: data entry and data management, requiring a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, the Internet, and Email; writing and mailing/processing acknowledgement letters, creating auction item descriptions, email communications, and other correspondence; working with the Museum’s fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge); using the computer systems’ merge functions to create labels, signs, name badges, bid sheets, and bid numbers; making follow-up telephone calls for auction items, sponsorships, reservations, and inquiries; and handling donated artwork and other auction items. Hands on coordination with all museum departments, volunteers, guests and artists. Must have the ability to work well with other volunteers and Museum staff and be organized, detail oriented, enthusiastic, resourceful, and flexible. Other important attributes include a pleasant phone manner, good writing skills, and typing accuracy. An appreciation or interest in art and museums is desirable.
