Development Membership

Student will assist in all aspects of the Development Membership department of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Tasks will include, but may not be limited to, in the following projects:

Orientation for each semester is mandatory for every intern. Summer 2009 orientation is Tuesday June 2, 10:30 - noon. Fall 2009 orientation is Tuesday September 8, 10:30 - noon. Spring 2010 orientation is Tuesday January 26, 10:30 - noon.

All Interns must become familiar with on site facilities, including permanent collections upcoming exhibitions as well as physical facilities in order to properly promote and cultivate membership. Membership Interns are encouraged to participate in a number of the NBMAA Promotional Events.

Membership Events

  • Assist in preparing Spring Members Trip Research handout information Confirming reservation status Attend Members Trip planning meeting.
  • Assist in other Membership events including AAC preview receptions Assist Hospitality Committee.
  • Assist in “Behind the Scenes” Tour project, commencing in January.

First Friday

  • Assist at First Friday event
  • Set up Membership Table in Visitors Center
  • Assist prospective visitors signing up for Membership
  • Follow Up Monday: Input Constituent Information from First Friday drawing forms into RE.
  • Merge records to FF Solicit Letter mailing.
  • Assemble and mail letters with voucher for a free studio art class.

Adult Tours

  • Greet Adult docent-led tour groups
  • Hand out packets membership promotional material.

Daily Projects

Guest Pass Program/Mailing List Sign-Up

  • Input Constituent Record information from Guest Passes into Raiser Edge database.
  • Merge records to Guest Pass Solicit Letter mailing.
  • Assemble and mail letters with voucher for a free studio art class.

Connecticut Vacation Pass Program

  • Input Name, Address on spreadsheet from CT/VAC Mailing request.
  • Merge information from spreadsheet to CT/VAC Letter mailing.
  • Assemble and mail letters with 2 for 1 pass and rack card.

Membership Renewals

  • Assist Membership with Renewal mailing first week of every month.
  • Includes merging records, copying, assembling, folding, renewal letters for mailing.

Donor Acknowledgement Letters

  • Assist Membership with assembling all Donor Acknowledgement letters including Annual Fund Appeal and Renewals.
  • Includes attaching membership cards and assembling New Members packets.

Reading and Writing Requirements:

Students will be required to keep a daily journal that outlines activities, personal observations, ideas to cultivate and retain members and key points. Relevant texts and materials will be provided for background readings and research papers.

Meetings and evaluations:

Students will formally meet with on-site supervisor weekly to discuss student’s progress, concerns and other topics. A final evaluation will be submitted to faculty sponsor.
