Watercolor with June Webster

Discover the wonders of painting in watercolor with Masters like Sargent, Homer, Prendergast and many others from the Museum’s collection. In her two-hour lessons, artist June Webster will explain these works and techniques used to help you create your own masterpieces.

June received her BFA in painting from the University of Connecticut. Since 2002, she has been a teaching artist at the NBMAA. She is also a member of the Northeast Watercolor Society and Connecticut Watercolor Society.

Ignite your artistic spirit with the wonderful medium of watercolor in this beginner’s class with Mary Smeallie. Demonstrations, critiques, and multiple one-on-one tutorials will cover everything from pigments and color mixing, to glazing and painting techniques. In these sessions, you will work with a variety of subject matters including still life, landscape, floral, abstract, and personal inspirations. In only six weeks, marvel over your artistic abilities and newfound skill set.

Jewelry Making with Karen Van Brakle

Motivated by The Enchanting Jewels of Elizabeth Gage exhibition, we will assist you in creating your own handcrafted semi-precious stone bracelet. In a step-by-step process, create an awe-inspiring piece of jewelry, perfect for a Mother’s Day present or a personal keepsake. The workshop will cover needle and thread techniques, using gold-lined delica seed beads, and crystal and gold faceted bicones ending with a gold toggle. By the end of the session, you will have a matching earring and bracelet set. Whether you are an avid jeweler or someone simply looking to try something new, the NBMAA opens its doors for this wonderful afternoon of socializing and crafting.

Sketching with Masters

Adults 18 and over

Gain access to the galleries before public hours to learn from the American masters in the Museum’s collection! You will be greeted by Museum staff and offered guidance choosing works from the collection or temporary exhibitions as your inspiration. Bring a sketch pad, pencils and erasers. All skill levels welcome.
