Join Douglas Hyland, Director of the New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) on a wonderful custom built tour that offers guided sightseeing, Museum visits, and plenty of on-your-own free time to explore the sights, and view arts in St. Petersburg, Russia. St. Petersburg is the city of Russian emperors and the nation's cultural capital, home to more than 200 magnificent museums, numerous winding waterways, charming canals, impressive architecture, good food and wine and vibrant cultural life. The visits begin with a journey to Peterhof (Petrodvorets) the summer home of Peter the Great. Built in the beginning of the 18th century, it served as the summer retreat of Russian emperors until 1917. Roam through the opulent rooms of the Grand Palace, an excellent specimen of the Russian baroque style of architecture, walk the lower Park, which is decorated with 150 fountains and three cascades. Lunch at Peterhof and then enjoy a very special tour: “The Secrets of Peterhof’s Fountains”. Over the remaining days visit a plethora of museums including The Hermitage, The Russian Museum, and the Museum of Applied Art. Visit the Erarta Museum and Galleries of Contemporary Art and the Novy Museum, both situated on “The Art Island” in the heart of St. Petersburg.
