smART Parties at the NBMAA

Give your loved one the gift of art. Host your child’s birthday party at the New Britain Museum of American Art! Enjoy time with friends and family while discovering American art, exercising creative thinking skills and creating works of art. Each two-hour program is led by Museum educators and includes the following:

  • Scavenger hunt in Museum galleries
  • Hands-on art activity in the American Savings Foundation Art Studio
  • 1/2 hour for birthday celebration
  • Specially themed gift bags for each child that can be created at an additional charge

Pick from our Party themes:

For a Limited Time! WILD Birthday Parties
Hunt through the wild forests of the Maurice Sendak exhibit looking for bears, wolves, and wild things followed by an art activity in the Art Studio. Join the gang by becoming a wild thing with a mask or creating one with a hand puppet. The rumpus ends with the exhibit Feb. 9, 2014!

Treasure Island Pirate Party
Ahoy matey, you’re in for a treat! So leave the landlubbers behind or be prepared to walk the plank!
We’ll weigh anchor and learn some pirate lingo as we discover the treasures of the New Britain Museum of American Art through a fun gallery treasure hunt. Arrgh, but what’s a pirate without his buried treasure? He’s no better than shark bait! Decorate your own treasure chests and maps to protect your doubloons and swag. So come along me hearties - we’ll skip the Scurvy and have a jolly time!

Animal Art Safari Party
Grab your binoculars and safari hats because we’re going on an adventure at the New Britain Museum of American Art! Search through our collections to find animals in paintings and sculptures in a safari-style scavenger hunt. We’ll be looking for some big game as we roam the wilds of the NBMAA!
Finish off the day by creating your own safari with fun animal masks or clay creatures inspired by your favorite furry and feathered friends.

Impressionist Garden Party
Your presence is cordially requested for a most magnificent outing at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Join us for a day of light and leisure as we experience some of the NBMAA’s Impressionist masterpieces. Create your own beautiful paper blossoms, decorate flower pots and even plant your own! A walk or perhaps a picnic in nearby Walnut Hill Park may be in store if weather permits!

"To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.”
~ Jane Austen
