The Art of Appropriation
Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014
4-6 p.m.
Free, but preregistration is required

Get up close and personal with the NBMAA’s Appropriation & Inspiration series, which pairs contemporary art with older works from the permanent collection to highlight ways in which historical awareness has shaped the practice of many contemporary artists. Enjoy a docent-led tour of this thought-provoking series that will end with a guided exploration of Titus Kaphar’s NEW/NOW exhibit, The Vesper Project. Join fellow educators and Museum staff to discuss how Kaphar’s artistic confrontations with history could be utilized to inspire critical thinking among your students through close looking at paintings from the past. Attendees are encouraged to stick around for Art Happy Hour, as Titus Kaphar speaks on The Vesper Project at 6 p.m. The Q & A period will be an opportunity to pose questions that emerge from our discussion. Preregister for the open house by contacting Katy Matsuzaki, Coordinator of School & Family Programs, at (860) 229-0257, ext. 220 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
