Special Events - Celebrating Mothers Day

Mother's Day Weekend

Saturday, May 9, 2015
The Education Department cordially invites you to kick-off Mother’s Day weekend on an activity-filled Saturday. For the youngest visitors, start the day off with our Art Start and Art Explorers programs as they make Mother’s Day-themed art projects. In the afternoon take part in our first annual Stuffed Animal Tea Party! Come dressed for the occasion and bring your best stuffed animal friend for light refreshments. Create a colorful and festive placemat to use for your place setting and take it home as a souvenir. Karl Lund, whose exhibit Angry Robots Liquefied My Brain runs through May 31, will be in the Art Studio from 1 to 3:30 p.m. to lead a sci-fi scribblefest! Don’t forget to stop by the ArtLab to make a bangle or cuff bracelet for mom inspired by The Enchanting Jewels of Elizabeth Gage. Spend the day with us as we honor mothers and celebrate all they give to their families. You will be sure to leave with a smile and a beautiful memory.

Then from 3-4 p.m., be inspired by the Judy Dworin Performance Project (JDPP), a non-profit organization that harnesses the arts as a powerful catalyst for creative expression through performance, community building and positive change.

Women on Our Own is JDPP’s latest artistic outreach, and is made up of a small group of women who, having reentered the community from prison, are sharing their abundant and spirited vocal gifts. The Women on Our Own singer-artists will present original songs, as well as selections from the York repertoire, their own arrangements of 60s and 70s favorites and songs of spirit and affirmation.
