The development of the NBMAA collections have been advanced over the years by generous monetary gifts earmarked for acquisition and gifts of artwork and whole collections. Some gifts have been outright and some planned for the future by bequest or trust.

CHIHULY LOVERS UNITE – Special Chihuly Appeal

In the Winter 2008 the Board of Trustees ratified a proposal by the Acquisition and Loan Committee to purchase and add to the permanent collection a Dale Chihuly chandelier entitled “Blue and Beyond Blue.”

Internationally renowned, called a phenomenon, with a large popular following, Chihuly’s works are found in over 200 museums worldwide. Many NBMAA visitors will remember the very popular Chihuly exhibition in 90s. What better place, than the oldest museum of American art, to have a work by the American master of glass sculpture.

Blue and Beyond Blue, measuring 9’ x 6 3/4’ x 6 1/2‘, is scheduled to be mounted in the area of the LeWitt Landing this summer in time to herald the opening of the special exhibition Contemporary Glass, scheduled for July 11 – October 26, 2008, featuring 75 works by some 50 glass sculptors.

Donations are being solicited to help pay for this important acquisition. Our goal is $175,000. Gifts of all sizes are appreciated, but donors of $2,000 or more will be listed on the wall-mounted object label. Consider making a gift in memory or in honor of someone special or in tribute to a special birthday, anniversary or occasion.
