The New Britain Museum of American Art seeks a wordsmith who understands content creation in the arts space. This is a rare opening at the NBMAA for a writer who is not afraid of the back end of a website; a content chameleon whose voice ranges from formal art history jargon to witty Instagram captions. The NBMAA is the first Museum in the nation solely focused on the acquisition of American Art and is dedicated to amplifying the voices of every American and the broadening definition of what it means to be American. Copywriting responsibilities

  1. Serve as central source for content entry and editing of programs, news, and information pertaining to our print and web presence
  2. Provide a consistent voice that follows the Museum’s style when writing for programs, marketing materials, etc
  3. Ability to maintain marketing deadlines for all materials
  4. Assist the Director of Marketing in implementing and maintaining writing standards for all NBMAA marketing materials
  5. Establish and maintain style and language guidelines, including web standards
  6. Work with other departments to complete writing assignments
  7. Develop fresh, targeted content, based on surveys, analytics, and demographics
  8. Check copy for spelling and grammar errors
  9. Upload all exhibitions, programs, and events onto website, as well as implement edits as needed
  10. Construct, write, and execute all email campaigns on MailChimp
  11. Compose and disseminate press releases and media alerts via the Meltwater platform
  12. Pull and report on monthly wesite analytics and press coverage reports from Meltwater
  13. Keep online event calendars populated per quarter
  14. Other duties as assigned


  • 1-3 years professional experience with copywriting and website management
  • Strong writing skills; grammar police; experience writing in the arts space an absolute plus
  • Working knowledge in the Adobe Suite; Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design a plus
  • Basic knowledge of coding, experience in Craft CMS, SEO skills a plus
  • High attention to detail and accuracy while working quickly and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • BS/BA or equivalent experience
