ABOUT THE EVENT

Access for All Community Day | National Wellness Month

Explore art together with your family and friends through various activities in the Museum! Our focus for this day is art and wellness. Try out our different offerings such as a sound lab that features wellness through music, a mindful sketching activity in our galleries, and a guided improv and collage-inspired project in one of our studios.

Activities:

12 p.m. | Music and Well-Being: A Sound Lab of North Indian Sacred Music

Music has been, and continues to be, an essential component of the practices of traditional healers in most cultures. Methods vary greatly from culture to culture, and from ancient to modern times. Yet, the practice of music and healing is not always sufficiently understood by performers, composers, and connoisseurs of music. Acknowledging the capacity of music to activate and influence autonomic system responses, this performance focuses on music’s medicinal properties on the human mind. An integral part of the performance, the “sound lab” will invite participants to the methods of guided listening using Rāgs (Indian melodic systems). Such methods will involve techniques including structural breathing and yogic postures, as they pertain to connecting the practices in sacred music with health care.

  • Pallavi Daggumati (Tanpura/ drones)

  • Pranav Ghatraju (Tabla)

  • Suhail Yusuf Khan (Voice/ sarangi)

11 a.m.-12 p.m. AND 12:30-1:30 p.m. | Gardens of Emotions collage workshop with Rob Santos and Roxy Savage

"We'll explore our emotions in a truthful way, using the freedom of improv to express what bothers us and what brings us joy. Then, we'll channel these feelings into 'Gardens of Emotions' collages, blending words, colors, and garden imagery to authentically capture our emotional landscapes."

1 p.m. | Guided mindful drawing and sketching activity in front of the Eva LeWitt installation

Throughout the Day | Mapping project in the Stanley Black & Decker Makerspace
