ABOUT THE EVENT

An Evening with Artist Negar Ahkami

Join us for An Evening with Negar Ahkami. The artist will present an illustrated talk in our Stanley Works Center for Education and Community Development and then give a gallery talk on her works The Source and The Bridge, on view in the special exhibition The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art.

Learn about the jewel-like, exquisitely patterned Persian aesthetic that inspires Ahkami’s work, and familiarize yourself with Iran’s rich history. Ahkami will also discuss ways in which Persian art is connected to our visual world and culture and shed light on the ways an artist connects emotionally to her source material.

Ahkami was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Clifton, New Jersey. She has a BA from Columbia University and her MFA from School of Visual Arts, New York. She has been featured in multiple solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries, including the New Britain Museum of American Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Leila Heller Gallery, and Depaul University Art Museum.

Ahkami’s work has been written about in The Beyond: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Art (Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, 2018), Contemporary Iranian Art: From the Street to the Studio (Reaktion, 2014), The New York Times, ArtNews, and other publications.
