Nancy Spero Bio

Nancy Spero (1926–2009) was a pioneer of feminist art. Since the 1960s, her works have conveyed statements against pervasive abuses of power, Western privilege, and male dominance. Repurposing images and text, her works respond to contemporary and historical events including the Vietnam War and the Holocaust. Major exhibitions of her work have been staged at the ICA Boston, LA MoCA, MoMA, and the MIT List Visual Arts Center.
