American Canvas
- This one-hour Docent-led conversation provides an introduction to the Museum’s history and highlights selections from the permanent collection and current exhibitions.

- Architects of Being: Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina | July 30 - November 1, 2026
- Bringing together nearly eighty artworks across sculpture, painting, collage, textile, fashion, jewelry, and design, Architects of Being: Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina places pioneering artists Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) and Esphyr Slobodkina (1908–2002) in dialogue for the first time. Though neither artist was formally trained as an architect, both employed architectural design principles— including spatial construction, material assemblage, and installation—to shape their artistic practices and personas. Taking its title from Nevelson’s assertion that “character is the architecture of the being,” the exhibition considers how both artists engaged architectural thinking to construct objects, artworks, environments, as well as identities and legacies.
- John Hitchcock: We are Defined by the Beat | Now through January 17, 2027
- For over three decades, Hitchcock has transformed the sonic and cultural rhythms of his homeland into a distinct visual language. An enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma with Comanche and Northern European ancestry, Hitchcock merges personal expression with references to intertribal powwows, the Wichita Mountain landscape of his youth, and the symbols and languages of Great Plains Native populations. Working across printmaking, neon, textiles, sound, and video, he merges traditional and contemporary art forms to pay homage to his ancestors, confront histories of Indigenous displacement and trauma, and celebrate community, resilience, and survival.
- Among Friends: Mary Cassatt and Her Circle | November 6, 2026 - February 14, 2027
- Among Friends: Mary Cassatt and Her Circle explores the relationships at the heart of Cassatt’s life and work: much of her art portrays keenly observed interpersonal dynamics, she formed close collaborative relationships with other artists, and her active cultivation of American collectors was highly influential in bringing modern art from France to audiences in the United States.
- The Wyeths: Three Generations | Works from the Bank of America Collection | November 20, 2026 - March 21, 2027
- For three generations, the Wyeth family has created art that enraptures the imagination. The Wyeths: Three Generations presents more than sixty paintings, drawings and illustrations by N. C. Wyeth, his son Andrew and his grandson Jamie, along with works by N. C.’s daughter Henriette and her husband Peter Hurd. The works—from the early 1900s to the early 2000s—reveal the breadth of the Wyeths’ creative output and illuminate the artists’ distinctive styles, stories, and subjects, as well as shared themes across their careers.

- If your group wants to do two different tours in one day, the second tour is half off. Plan a whole day at the Museum! You can do one tour in the morning, enjoy lunch at the Museum Café, then do a second tour in the afternoon.
Guided Gallery Conversation + Studio
Join us for a new two-hour extended program that pairs a Docent-led tour of the galleries with a hands-on art studio.
The Art of Still Life
- Take a focused look into some of the Museum’s celebrated still life works by artists like Robert Duncanson, Raphaelle Peale, Severin Roesen, William Harnett, John Haberle, John La Farge, and Justin Favela. Gallery conversations will center around how artists transform ordinary everyday objects into extraordinary compositions. In the studio component, participants will learn and practice drawing and shading techniques through creating their own still life.
Experimentations with Printmaking
- Taking inspiration from pop artists who created art that reflected modern American culture by challenging traditional definitions of fine art, a Museum Docent will lead participants through discussions of the varied ways artists use the printmaking process. Following the gallery portion, participants will explore techniques in our new printmaking studio.
Duration: 30-45 minutes in the gallery, 1.5 hours in the studio

FAQs
- Free passes, Membership, and library passes are not valid for Gallery Conversations, Gallery Conversations + Studio, or Self-Guided Group Visits
- Visits are offered during Museum open hour
- Security Deposit: The Museum requires a 10% security deposit to hold all tour reservations. This deposit can be paid by phone, mail, or in person using check or card upon receipt of invoice from the Museum. All security deposits are returnable if the tour is canceled more than two weeks before the tour date.
- All guided visits must be booked at least two weeks in advance
- Checking In: Members of a group should check in together at the front desk 15 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled program. The group leader must first check in at the front desk with one payment for the entire group. (Individual payments are not allowed and groups will not be checked in until payment is received. Failing to do so may result in lost tour time.)
- Lunch Options: The Museum Café serves lunch Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No outside food may be brought into the Museum. Café and terrace seating are reserved for Café customers only. Groups of more than 20 people must select a boxed lunch option or request private catering. The current menu and fees may be requested at the time of booking.
- Accessibility: The Museum is handicapped accessible. The entrance ramp is located to the left of the main entrance, and all galleries are accessible by elevators. Care partners may attend the tour at no additional fee.
