ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

NBMAA Staff Skateboard Show

For the past three months, Museum staff have been busy creating original artworks using wooden skateboard forms. All staff members were invited to submit original artwork for the show using any medium of their choice.

Mike Mindera, Associate Preparator, describes:

"This show was conceived to showcase the talents of our staff at the NBMAA. For years, the only way to see a coworker's artwork would have been viewing it on their phone or sometimes in a gallery setting. I wanted to bring the staff together so we could enjoy each other's work in person. I had been creating skateboards from scratch for years and stockpiling them away for an unknown reason. An idea same to my mind to have staff members create a one-of-a-kind designed skateboard. The rules of the contest were that there were none. Any medium would be accepted into the show. I was able to look at the skateboards before writing this intro, and I was blown away with the creativity within our staff. Noted on each label is the department in which the staff member works. I hope you enjoy the show and cast a ballot for your favorite."

See the artworks on view in the Museum Café and vote for your favorite! Pick up a ballot at the Front Desk, and submit your vote in the ballot box in the Café. Voting will take place from the opening of the show on Thursday, July 27 through Sunday, August 6, and the winners will be announced on August 9.
